Tamale (N/R) Feb. 19, GNA - Millicom Ghana, operators of Tigo Cellular Network, is to roll-out a 3G service to its subscribers in March this year, Mr Anthony Dadzie, Northern Regional Territory Manger of Tigo, announced on Friday.
The 3G is a mobile phone service that enables subscribers to send and receive data, as well connect to the Internet at the highest possible speed and in the most secure way.
With 3G phone service, customers will always be connected, regardless of their location and uses cell phone signals as well as cell towers to provide users access to many services. The company officials said, Tigo had obtained license from the Nationa= l Communication Authority and all arrangements to run the service had been completed. Tigo will be the third in the country to start the service after MTN and Airtel.
Mr Dadzie speaking at the opening of a new office for the company in Tamale noted that in the company's quest to serve its customers, Tigo had adopted two basic strategies namely operational excellence and innovation t= o enable it to achieve its goals this year. Mr Dadzie explained that operational excellence was to provide conducive atmosphere for an effective interaction with its customers, addin= g "that innovation also meant developing product to the taste of its customers. "Tigo had also launched its innovative product dubbed 93Tigo Cash= ", to enable customers to send, receive, top up airtime, pay bills, as well as to make purchases, using their mobile phones.
"This service was necessitated by the fact that, about eight out of ten persons did not have access to bank account in the country, especially thos= e in the rural areas," he said. Mr Dadzie pledged Tigo's commitment to its customers and urged them to register with the service as it was one of the safest and the most convenient means of sending and receiving money from family, friends and business partners.
Mr Joseph Dasana, the Northern Regional Coordinating Director, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Regional Minister, Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, pledged government's support to all in the telecommunication sector and urged them to let transparency reign in their activities and als= o undertake more projects in the communities they operated. He said the telecommunication industry was synonymous to every day changes in technology and praised the company for putting up a befitting office to serve its customers.
Mr Bukari Mabengba noted that the pervasiveness of technology appeared to be the most apparent reason for the proliferation of cell phones, most o= f which were no longer ordinary but advanced gadgets which enabled users to enjoy many services including internet access and sending and receiving electronic mails. He said government was upgrading its own telecommunication facility nationwide, which included the deployment of dedicated telecomm network to all districts and public institutions, ministries, departments and agencies to single shared communication and computing infrastructure.
