Tigo Ghana, a telecom provider has expressed its unhappiness over the continuous cutting of its fibre in some parts of the country.
Speaking at a news conference in Accra, Mr Obafemi Banigbe, Chief Operation Officer at Tigo said, the continuous cutting of the fibre is having a negative impact on its customer experience.
He said, just last weekend it had 10 fibre cuts in the Western Region alone and on the average it records 52 fibre cuts in a month.
He blamed the situation on the activities of road contractors and illegal miners.
He said, with the fibre cuts, Tigo needs to double its teams and sometimes tripling them to undertake maintenance works and repairs.
He said Tigo feels the pain of its customers and is therefore embarking on multiple projects that would improve the resilience of the network.
Mr Obafemi said it is currently undertaking an overheard fibre project in the Ashanti Region, and also expanding its microwave link between Accra, Ho and Aflao to be completed by March 2015.
He gave the assurance that from January next year, customers would feel an improved network experience ahead of the completion in March 2015.
He said, in the next 12 months, Tigo would be investing in backbone expansion from Kumasi to Accra, as well as its metro fibre.
Mr Obafemi said Tigo has in 2014 expanded its mobile voice service to more than 300 new communities and would continue the process.
He said it is also partnering with world class telecommunication service provider- Ericson, to leverage on its experience and improve service delivery on its network.
