Gomoa Assin (C/R), Aril 19, GNA - A Timber firm operating in the Gomoa District, Abura Woods Limited, has constructed access roads to link some communities in the area.

Speaking to newsmen at Gomoa Assin in the Central Region, Hajia Amina Fletcher, Managing Director of the firm, said the company was spending more than 500 million cedis to improve the road network in the area to facilitate the movement of people, goods and services especially farm products to the market centres.

She stated that the roads were a four-kilometre road from Ohua to Nkoranza, the five-kilometre Asempanyin-Gomoa Maim and a two-kilometre from Achiase to Akropong. Hajia Amina denied that the company was operating without valid documents and said her documents had been approved by the Forestry Commission, adding that, "as a law-abiding citizen, my company would not do anything illegal".

The Managing Director said that apart from the roads the company had been paying royalties to the Lands Commission and compensating farmers who natured the trees and those whose crops were destroyed in the company's operations. She assured farmers and the traditional authorities that they would not be cheated and that they would get their due reward from their forest resources.
