In the last few weeks, food prices have significantly surged in various markets. Tomatoes, a key food item, have especially seen a notable increase, leaving many traders and consumers in disbelief.
Consumers have been sharing their thoughts on social media about the steep rise in tomato prices in the markets.
GhanaWeb visited some major markets in the capital to learn more about the situation. The news team spoke with some consumers who confirmed the price hike and noted a decrease in quantity when purchasing tomatoes.
Additionally, some tomato traders, who also spoke with the news team, attributed the price hikes to the depreciation of the local currency. They explained that this has made it challenging for them to buy imported items, such as tomatoes.
On the other hand, some traders blamed the scarcity of tomatoes for the price increase and urged the government to take necessary steps to address the issue.
