Total Ghana scores another first; commissions 50 new tankers

Total Petroleum Ghana Limited (TPGL), the leading oil marketing company in Ghana on Tuesday commissioned 50 brand new tankers at a colourful ceremony in Accra.

The brand new oil tankers, according to officials of TPGL, would ensure the safe transportation of petroleum and allied products across the country, as well as relieve the pressure on ones that cover long distances.


In an address, the Managing Director of TPGL, Gillaume Larroque, said the company’s active involvement in road safety activities over the years, has translated into providing defensive driving training to several drivers in the country.


He revealed that the company with the support of its bankers -SG-SSB - invested GHS 21 million into the purchase of the new tankers.


On his part, the Vice President of Total West Africa Thibault de Langlais said safety is an overriding priority for TPGL.


Mr. Langlais said: "Total is committed to the regular renewal of fleet transporting products as well as undertaking a regular inspection of the vehicles."


According to him, the fleet renewal would contribute to the prevention of road accidents and provide better quality of service to customers.

Executive Director of the National Road Safety Commission, Nobel Appiah commended Total for its contribution towards reducing carnage on our roads and stressed the need for transporters to support the initiative.


Noble Appiah urged other companies to emulate the Total example and invest more in the transport sector, to help better the quality of services provided to customers.


Beneficiary companies of the first phase include J.K Horgle Limited, Spenhaul Limited, and J.K Ahiadome Transport Limited, officials disclosed.


The event brought together respected industry payers and dignitaries including the French Ambassador to Ghana – Frederic Clavier.
