Accra, Sept. 20, GNA - Vice President John Mahama at the weekend received the keys to a 38,000 dollar 'avensis' salon car donated by Toyota Ghana Limited towards the centenary celebration of Dr Kwame Nkrumah's birthday.

Mr Masato Kimato, Managing Director of Toyota Ghana Limited, presented the vehicle to the Vice President at the Castle, Osu, in recognition of what he said was the late President's world-wide appeal. Besides, he said, the 'avensis' model of Toyota matches with Ghana's new image as a stable and thriving society. Receiving the keys, Vice President Mahama commended the management of Toyota for the gift, describing it as a fitting tribute to the late President's memory.

He said transportation is one of the difficulties that had faced the Kwame Nkrumah Centenary Committee, and therefore expressed satisfaction with the decision of Toyota to help ameliorate the situation. Vice President Mahama observed that Toyota cars had proved over the years to be one of the best adapted and useful transport models on the Ghanaian local scene.

He appealed for more support for the committee to make the Centenary celebration, which coincides with the Muslim feast of Ramadan, a fitting honour in memory of Dr Nkrumah. Professor Akilagkpa Sawyer, Chairman of the Centenary Committee, described Toyota's gift as one of the most significant the Committee has received to date. He appealed to the wider public to emulate Toyota Ghana Limited by contributing generously towards the celebration. 20 Sept. 09
