Some traders in Accra have expressed joy at the immense gains they made while others said their sales were relatively poor during last year's Christmas, according to a Ghana News Agency (GNA) survey conducted on Friday.

At Lenec Enterprise in Accra, dealers in assorted clothing, Ms Ama Serwah, the sales representative said although sales increased during the Christmas, the previous year's sales were better.

Mr Eric Essiamah, a shoe seller said, "it is not usual for me to be having this large quantity of shoes left unsold after the new year.' He said last year around the same time he had sold so much that he ran out of stock. Mr Essiamah however, acknowledged that sales went high during Christmas as compared to his normal sales.

Mr Osei Kofi, Manager at Odike Ventures, dealers in footwear, had a different story to tell. He said last year's sales were much better than the previous year. The manager said there was a sharp increase in sales from December 20th to 25th after which sales suddenly declined.

Mr Isaac Boakye, Manager at Topman Shoes Ltd said that sales was quite better last year compared to 2001, adding that the increase was as a result of price reduction on their products.
