Traders want government to reduce fuel price

Traders at the Kaneshie Market have called on government to reduce the price of fuel, which has been recently announced, since it is gradually collapsing their businesses.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on Friday during a price check, Mrs Naomi Frimpong a shop keeper at the market, said after the price increase, prices of goods have gone up, leading to low patronage by consumers.

She explained that: “we cannot sell our things at low prizes any more, since the fuel price has been increased and it is affecting our business because people do not buy things as they used to buy “.

Ms Patricia Sowah, second hand cloth dealer, noted that the price increment has worsened the predicament of traders at the Kaneshie market.

“Business is not booming we the traders here are praying to God for his assistance and now the increment of fuel price has worsened everything for us”, she said.

Survey indicated that a mini bag of rice, which cost Ghc 13, Ghc 14 and Ghc 15, depending on the quality of the rice, now sells at Ghc 17, Ghc 18 and Ghc 19 at the market.

A cup of sugar used to be sold 90 pesewas but it is now sold at Ghc 1, and gari which was sold Ghc3 now sells at Ghc 5.
