The national grid will have an additional 370 Megawatts of power injected into it by the end of the year.
The government in the heat of the power crises last year, signed a five-year agreement with Turkey’s Aksa Enerji to install a generation plant at Tema.
The Deputy Power minister, John Jinapor said, work on the plant is on course and the agreed volume of power will be generated by the end of the year. This agreement is one of the many arrangements government entered into in a bid to ensure reliable power supply.
Per this Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Aksa Enerji will sell the generated electricity in full to Ghana with purchase guarantees. The power plant which was expected to have been fully operational by the end of the first half of 2016 will commence electricity generation before the year ends.
Giving this assurance in Accra recently, Jinapor said: “We are also working with Aksa Enerji, another Turkish company to install 370 Megawatts supply of power through thermal plants that would use HFO in Tema”.
He said communications between his ministry and Aksa Enerji indicate that the project is progressing steadily.
“The briefing I got is that, they’ve installed six of the turbines already, and are confident that this year, they’ll start injecting power into the national grid”, he affirmed.
