Two District Assemblies owe SSNIT

Two District Assemblies in the Western Region are among 121 establishments in the region that have been served with demand notices for being indebted to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to the tune of GH¢1,263,058.55 in the month of July, 2013.

The two district assemblies were the Ahanta West District Assembly, owing GH¢10,561.57 and Jomoro District Assembly, which owed GH¢9,791.95. According to the Western and Central Region Area Manager of SSNIT, Stephen Asamoah, his outfit was poised to recover all unpaid contributions from defaulting institutions operating in the Western and Central regions.

He indicated that if measures were not taken to reverse the current trend of default by employers, the scheme would be in crisis to the detriment of the future security of contributors and pensioners.

He added that 34 institutions which also owed the Takoradi Area SSNIT an amount of GH¢152,805.01 within the same period, had also been served with criminal summons for their failure to pay the accrued contributions and penalty for their employees. Stephen Asamoah disclosed this in an interview with DAILY GUIDE during the bi-annual Branch Managers’ Consultative Meeting in Takoradi.

He mentioned other defaulting establishments and the amount they owed as ENH Emulsion Ghana Limited, Takoradi, GH¢11,048.70.

The rest were Valley Beach Hotel, Takoradi, GH¢10,610.96; Cornerstone Printing Press, Takoradi, GH¢5,294.20; Institute of Aviation & Professional Studies, Takoradi, GH¢3,833.74; Alpha & Omega International, Takoradi, GH¢3,200.49; Atlantic Drilling Services, Tarkwa, GH¢15,456.71 and Egem Services Limited, Tarkwa, GH¢27,374.75.

He also mentioned Pure FM, Tarkwa, GH¢9,588.07; Wakson Cleaning Services, Tarkwa, GH¢8,470.27; New Century Mines, Prestea, GH¢5,106.80; Nana Andoh Services, Tarkwa-Atieku, GH¢5,281.24.

Mr. Asamoah indicated that as at July 2013, 110 establishments with total indebtedness of GH¢1,590.669.30 were hauled before court for nonpayment of workers’ contributions and penalties.

He therefore appealed to all the establishments served with demand notices to pay up before the expiry dates to avoid being dragged to court. “My doors are open to employers who have genuine challenges with the payment of the contributions, for discussions”, he stressed.
