Two VAT offenders put before Tribunal

Kumasi, Aug. 8, GNA - Two service providers have appeared before a Kumasi Regional Tribunal, chaired by Mr K. K. Yanney, for contravening the Value Added Tax (VAT) law. They are John Addae Enterprise (Old-timers) and Chinese Fast Foods.

They face two counts of refusal to issue VAT invoice and refusal to pay VAT to the Commissioner of VAT Service. Mr John Addae of John Addae Enterprise and Mr Emmanuel Afari who represented the Chinese Fast Foods, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were each granted 10 million cedis bail with one surety to be justified.

The case, being prosecuted by Mrs Doris Dabanka, a State Attorney, has been adjourned to October 15. Another Company, Attak Services, which was also supposed to have been in court failed to show up and is to appear before the tribunal on the adjourned date.

The three were among eight business enterprises arrested, in June this year for violating the VAT law, in an exercise jointly carried out by the VAT Service, police and the Attorney-General's Department.

The rest are Forewin Ghana Limited, Askus Limited, Triangle Trio Enterprise, Karenza Enterprise Limited and I.N. Amissah Limited.
