“After a careful evaluation of your achievements and its significant impact on the society during the year under review, we are delighted to announce that UBA Ghana has won Best Educational Sustainability Programme and Youth Development Programme, said Isaac Adu-Gyamfi, the Director of the SSI Awards.
He continued by stressing, “United Bank for Africa Ghana Limited (UBA) Ghana, a subsidiary of United Bank for Africa Plc for the year under review through the UBA FOUNDATION has undertaken several CSR initiatives that have impacted a lot of lives and communities within Ghana and across Africa.
Some of the life transforming initiatives includes, the READ AFRICA project, UBA National Essay Competition among others.
UBA Regional CEO (West Africa 1), Mrs. Abiola Bawuah expressed her delight for the recognition. “We have waited patiently for these awards. It appeared it was the only award that was missing from our trophy closet considering the milestones we achieved in previous years, most especially in the year 2017.
While the chairman of UBA Plc, Mr. Tony Elumelu has taken it upon himself to reward 1,000 African Entrepreneurs each with $5,000 every year, we as subsidiaries have focused on some thematic community involvement programmes and Education as of date remains our flagship CSR project”.
“For the past five years, we have donated over 10,000 literature books to Senior High Schools across the country through our Read Africa project, where we visit schools and read with the students.
This preparatory ground allows us to organize our National Essay Competition where relevant topics are selected for interested students to debate in writing.
The first three winners receive $5,000, $3,500 and $2,000 respectively. Today UBA is already taking care of 12 students at the Tertiary level in areas such as Medicine, Journalism, engineering, the Arts, etc.
The 2018 essay competition will add up to 15 students since the commencement of our National Essay competition”, Mrs Bawuah explained.
The SSI awards is an initiative endorsed by the National House of Chiefs aimed at identifying and publicly recognizing the exemplary success of all companies/foundations operating in Ghana to improve the quality of life of the communities they operate in through social investment projects.
