The United Kingdom (UK) Commissioner for Trade in Africa, Emma Wade-Smith, has noted that Ghana has a 1.4billion pounds trading relation with the UK.

She made this known after she led a delegation from the UK to tour the Unilever Ghana factory in Tema on Monday March 2.

Ms Wade-Smith told journalists that to enable Ghana to further boost its economy, the oil-producing West African nation will have to increase its export of goods and services not only to the UK, but to other parts of the world.

Exports, she said, is the way forward for building a stronger economy.

“When we look at the trading relations worth about 1.4billion pounds currently,” she said.

“That is fairly well-placed between export from Ghana and export from the UK. We want to see that better managed in terms of balancing the investment.

“We need to support Ghanaian companies to export more not just to the UK, but globally. That is where the power actually lies.”

Commenting on the success of Unilever Ghana, she commended the company, saying that, its success stories will be used to encourage businesses in the UK to invest and establish businesses in Ghana.
