Accra Jan 26, GNA - A number of United Kingdom (UK) companies that visited Ghana last year on an exploratory mission have expressed interest and growing confidence in the economy, the British High Commission said on Wednesday.
There were four UK trade missions to Ghana last year. They comprised 69 British Companies from variety of sectors including Information Communication Technology, Energy, transport, and financial and legal services, Mr Gordon Wetherell, UK's High Commissioner in Ghana said at a reception for the media in Accra.
The reception, which attracted several journalists from both the state owned and private media organisations, was to strengthen the existing relations between the High Commission and the Ghanaian press. Mr Wetherell said various trade delegations that visited Ghana during the year had fruitful exchanges and that seminars were held for about 300 Ghanaian participants, which provided useful platforms for the two countries to share knowledge in Health, hospitality, agro-processing and environmental industries.
He announced the opening of a new consular section at Kumasi to facilitate Visa applications in the region and also to reduce the incidence of people travelling to Accra for similar function. He said the Commission had introduced Visa Fast-track Services in order to provide one-stop shop applications, including payment of fees, facilities to obtain passport photos and document photocopying.
Mr Wetherell said the British Council would for the next five years offer Ghana a distinctive education and cultural relations programmes to help young Ghanaians recognize their aspirations for education and skills.
He said cultural interactions between young Ghanaians and their British counterparts had opened global opportunities for the former with closer ties to organizations and communities in the UK. 26 Jan. 06
