UNILEVER donates computers to six schools in Tema

Tema, July 19, GNA - The management of UNILEVER Ghana Limited on Wednesday donated 30 used computers worth 50 million cedis to five selected Senior Secondary schools and a Junior Secondary School within Tema Municipality.

Each of the schools to receive five computers were Ashaiman Senior Secondary School, Our Lady of Mercy (OLAM) Senior Secondary School, Manhean Senior Secondary Technical, Methodist Day Senior Secondary, Presbyterian Senior Secondary School and St Alban's Anglican Junior Secondary School.

Mr Peter Sykes, UNILEVER Human Resource Director making the presentation said the donation was to assist the schools establish computer laboratories.

He said with the development of Information Communication Technology (ICT) the computers would help bridge the gap between students in Ghana and their counterparts in the world. My Sykes noted that the presentation was the second within the municipality, last year UNILEVER donated 25 used computers to some selected primary, JSS and SSS schools.

He said in addition, the company inaugurated a computer laboratory at TOPP School at Twifo Praso in the Central Region as part of their social responsibilities within their areas of operation.

Mrs Lucy Kwapong, Tema Municipal Director of Education, receiving the computers said the computers would offer students within the municipality an opportunity to acquire appropriate skills to prepare them for the job market.

She said it would also boost the efforts of government's initiative on distance learning as both the students and teachers would be introduced to ICT.

Miss Louisa Agbey of OLAM Secondary expressed appreciation to UNILEVER and appealed for more computers to other schools within the municipality and the country.
