Bastiat Society Organisation, a US-based free market economic think tank institute, has set up a Chapter in Ghana as a refuge ground for entrepreneurs and individuals to join the fellowship.

“This will help restore popular confidence in an economic order based on freedom, than living under an immoral economic system based on power, theft and envy,” a statement issued in Accra, by Dr Tweneboah Senzu, Managing Director of Bastiat Society Ghana, said.

The statement copied to Ghana News Agency said businesses must take the lead in defending the morality and productivity of a free society. Dr Senzu said the society has a full support of renowned Laisez-faire economic thinkers globally with its founding fathers as Frederic Bastiat, Adam Smith and Milton Friedman, with thousands of business, entrepreneurs and academicians identified as members globally.

“It is the only society that has a practical blend and effective networking between the business community and the academic world globally, to empower industries for the benefit of the people and State,” he said.

Dr Senzu quoted John D. Rockefeller (Captain of Industries), as saying: “I believe in the dignity of labour whether with hand or head that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living.” He therefore called on people to join Bastiat to benefit from the opportunity the fellowship creates for one to make a living for him or herself and community to facilitate development.

He said: “We know according to Adam Smith that no society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable.

“This defined that our principle of wealth creating is always based on a morality grounds, which will never allow lazy people or people who believe in legal plundering to label or attack us as greedy, ruthless, heartless and even evil with no justifiable fact.

“Those who work in freedom should know how freedom works.” Bastiat believes in the principle of free trade and arm the capitalist with ideas to create wealth and jobs to defend it to make the world a better place. The society is non-political and promotes a positive message with a content of ideas and principles to guide the prosperity of the business community.
