US-based firm to invest 1.2m dollars in Agogo

Accra, Sept. 22, GNA - Citrix Systems Incorporated, a United States-based firm has made a 1.2 million dollar commitment to the Agogo Traditional Area in an agreement in which the company plans to set up a 1,400-hectare hydroponics complex and an Internet Service provider and other application systems operation.

Hydroponics refers to large-scale fish and vegetable farming. A statement from Nana Akuoko Sarpong, Omanhene of Agogo Traditional Area, and issued in Accra on Monday said the commitment culminated from a five-day visit by Mr Trevor Gruen-Kennedy, Vice President of Citrix Systems to the area.

The statement said as part of the programme three cities, that is Miami in the US, Agogo in Ghana and a town in Cameroon would be linked via satellite to provide education to students.

Mr Gruen-Kennedy also signed a memorandum of understanding to bring investments running into millions of dollars to Ghana.

The statement said while in the country, Mr Gruen-Kennedy, one of the 25 most important people in the computer networking industry in the world met with top businessmen in commerce, industry, government and culture and had the occasion to address the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, where he made his commitment to help push Ghana's agenda for growth.

Mr Gruen-Kennedy, who has since left for the US, is expected back in Ghana in November for the sod-cutting ceremony for the hydroponics project.
