Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - The UT Group on Tuesday presented cheques worth GH¢40,000 to various charity organizations in support of their work for the underprivileged and the needy in society. The donations formed part of the annual corporate social responsibility activities undertaken by the UT group to reach out to the society.

The donations would support the education of 10 children at the secondary and tertiary level, children in some basic schools and also cater for the needs of some orphans. Mr Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Chief Executive Officer of UT Bank and UT holdings and Deputy Managing Director of UT Bank, Mrs Pearl Esua-Mensah presented the cheques to seven institutions. The institutions include the Ghana Society for the Blind, Ghana Heart Foundation, Ghana National Trust Fund and Family Outreach International. Mr Amoabeng said social responsibility was an integral part of the company's business operations as it was aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of the people and the community in which UT operates.

He said UT's contribution alone would not help to address the myriads of problems facing the charities, but served as an encouragement to other institutions to support the needy. Mrs Esua-Mensah said the company acknowledged that Government alone could not do it and require the support of corporate organizations and individuals to make life a little better for the less privileged. In addition to these donations, the UT Group also supports the accident and Trauma Unit of the 37 Military Hospital, the Police Clinic at DVLA and other financial literacy programme for clients. Last year, the Group spent about GH¢150,000 on corporate social responsibility activities. 12 Oct. 10
