The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the conduct of ride-hailing apps such as Uber, Bolt, and Yango in the country, accusing them of exploiting Ghanaians and evading fair pricing standards.

According to the GPRTU, these online platforms are quick to adjust their prices when traditional transport services increase fares but are reluctant to reduce them when fares go down, citing the recent 15% decrease as an example.

Speaking to GhanaWeb Business on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Public Relations Officer of GPRTU, Abass Ibrahim Moro, criticised the pricing mechanisms of these apps, describing their inconsistency as unfair and harmful to Ghanaians who rely on affordable transport.

He said these digital platforms are taking advantage of Ghanaians through their pricing models.

“Your system comes with your prices, so if I engage Uber and the price is not favorable to me, I will immediately go to Yango. If Yango's price is low or reasonable, why wouldn’t I choose Yango for my services?” Moro stated.

He further described the lack of uniform pricing and the failure to adhere to national directives as deeply problematic.
