A statement to the Ghana News Agenc y on Friday signed by Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary of GJA, said Unilever would sponsor all but the workshop on intellectual property rights, which would be sponsored by the Public Affairs section of the US Embassy. The statement said the sponsorship by Unilever was in fulfilment of a pledge it made at an encounter with journalists earlier this year to support media training in addition to sponsoring the prize for the winner of the Journalist-of-the-Year Award. It said the US Embassy's assistance was in response to concerns expressed by the GJA and sections of the public to better understand how intellectual property laws could protect the rights of Ghanaian producers at all levels. It said the workshops would be held at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra and called on interested journalists to pick up application forms at the Ghana International Press Centre. It added that participants would be selected on merit and proven interest in their subject areas. "The deadline for the submission of applications is July 28, 2009". 24 July 09
