Unilever donates computers to Tema schools

Tema, May 16, GNA - Unilever Ghana Limited, on Wednesday donated used computers and books valued at 150 million cedis to some deprive schools in Tema in fulfilment of its social responsibilities. The 390 books titled: "Ghana is 50" and authored by Abyna-Ansaa Adjei were presented to Manhean Presbyterian Primary, Manhean Anglican Primary, Manhean Methodist Primary and Manhean Tema Metropolitan Assembly Primary while the 50 computers would be distributed among more than 10 ten schools in the municipality.

Making the presentation, Mrs Vicky Wireko-Andoh, Cooperate Relations Manager of Unilever noted that, the donation was part of the organisation's promise to contribute to the development of education in the country.

She indicated that Unilever spent over four billion cedis on scholarships for 360 senior secondary students, 72 undergraduates and eight postgraduates under their education foundation adding that, "it is only through quality education that we can nurture quality human resource for the development of Ghana".

Mrs Wireko-Andoh said the company had over the years donated 40 used computers to first and second cycle schools in the municipality while indicating that, some Unilever managers devote their lunch time to teach in some Unilever adopted schools including the four that received the books.

Mr Gabriel Kotei, Assistant Director in charge of Supervision at the Tema Education Directorate said under the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE), companies were obliged to help in the educational sector as schools were community based.
