Unilever donates to frontline health facilities

Unilever Ghana has partnered with some media houses to help fight the deadly Coronavirus that has engulfed the world.

Ghana is currently faced with 68 confirmed cases with 3 deaths.

According to the Ghana Health Service, "The sudden spike in case incidence is as a result of the mandatory quarantine and compulsory testing for all travelers entering Ghana, as directed by the president.

"Overall, 30 of the 68 cases have been reported in the general population with the remaining 38 cases among persons currently under mandatory quarantine. As of 24 March, total of 1,030 persons are under mandatory quarantine; samples from 863 of them have been tested and 38 confirmed positive."

In light of this, the company has stated its commitment to assist with educational drives, sharing of expertise, as well as the donation of products to health centers.

The frontline institutions it has donated to so far are the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research, the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Tema General Hospital, and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The collaborations are supported by Unilever Ghana’s Lifebuoy soap brand which advocates proper hand washing with an anti-germ soap under running water.

“Unilever Ghana implores the good people of Ghana to endeavor to adhere to the safety and health protocols outlined and announced by the government, and to commit, at a personal level. To keep safe always,” the statement read.

Unilever Ghana stands with the good people of Ghana through these trying times when all are united in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus disease. The company commits to offer its widow’s mite in assisting with the educational drives, sharing of expertise and donation of products to the health centers, when necessary.

In the light of its commitment, the company has started to collaborate with some media houses on sharing of educational materials on practices to help people stay safe. There have been educational campaigns at some churches and lorry stations where hand washing stations are set up to encourage proper hand washing habits as well. It has also committed support for the frontline staff in the fight by donating some boxes of Lifebuoy soap for their use.
