Unilever to invest 100 billion cedis in production

Kumasi, June 28, GNA- Unilever Ghana Limited is investing about 100 billion cedis in its production process this year, to reposition the company as the leading industrial giant in the country. Fifty billion cedis would be used for retooling the company's equipment while the remaining amount would be invested in research and promoting the company's products.

Mr Charles Cofie, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company, made this known during a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11 at the Manyia Palace in Kumasi. Mr Cofie said the company had taken advantage of the President's Special Initiative on Salt and was currently producing a new brand of iodated salt.

The CEO said he would continue the path of progress that was initiated by his predecessors to move the company and the economy forward.

Mr Cofie presented a cheque of 50 million cedis as the company's contribution towards the Otumfuo Education Fund.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu congratulated Mr Cofie on his appointment as CEO and advised him to tap the rich experience of his predecessors to promote good management and the progress of the company.

The Asantehene also commended Mr Ishmael Yamson, former CEO, for achieving a distinguished record for the company and expressed the hope that the company's fortunes would continue to expand in the years ahead. Oheneba Adusei Poku, the Akyempimhene, who received the cheque on behalf of the Fund, thanked management of the company for their continued support for the educational scheme since its establishment. He said Otumfuo Osei Tutu had established the Serwaa Ampem HIV/AIDS Foundation to fight against HIV/AIDS. 28 June 05
