Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur on Friday commended the Pan African bank, the Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), on its performance, and said its success story "is one African story to celebrate."

He gave thumbs up to the bank, which started in 1988 as a dream, but has grown to almost a global bank now.

"The story of Ecobank is one African story to celebrate," the Vice President said during an interview with journalists during the 25th anniversary celebrations of Ecobank in Lome, Togo.

Lome is the headquarters of the ETI financial conglomerate.

The Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbe, invited Ghana to participate in the ceremony in respect of Ghana's contribution to the ETI foundation stage and subsequent years of growth.

President Blaise Campoare of neighbouring Burkina Faso and President Thomas Yayi Boni of Benin were part of the event.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur recalled that, along the vision of making a contribution to the African unity idea, Ghana was the first country to make a transfer to the bank when it was established.

He said part of the challenges facing the board of the bank is how to maintain its major stock exchanges.

The ETI is a banking conglomerate with banking operations in 33 African countries.

It is the leading independent regional banking group in West and Central Africa, serving wholesale and retail customers.

It also maintains subsidiaries in Eastern Africa, as well as in Southern Africa; and representative offices in Angola, China, Dubai, France, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
