Veep asks South Korea to double aid to Ghana

Accra, Sept. 18, GNA- Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, on Thursday asked South Korea, to stick to its promise to triple its economic assistance to Africa and strive to put Ghana high on the agenda.

He also called for more investments from the Asian nation in areas like oil exploration and the boosting of technical co-operation. Alhaji Mahama made the request when he interacted with Mr. Wi Keyei-Chul, out-going South Korean Ambassador at the Osu Castle, who has completed a two-year duty tour in Ghana.

He lauded South Korea for playing an active role in Ghana's oil industry by referring to the country's role in supporting the construction of pipelines, to transport petroleum products, from the Buipe Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation facility in the Northern Region to a similar outlet in Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region. Alhaji Mahama said South Korea was also assisting the country to refine oil.

He assured the Ambassador that Ghana would do everything possible to ensure peaceful presidential and parliamentary elections in December and a smooth transition to power.

Mr. Keyei-Chul said since his posting to Ghana, he had witnessed tremendous improvement and enhanced bilateral relations, which started in 1977.

He noted that the impressive democratic process, coupled with the stable economic environment would assist Ghana to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

Mr. Keyei_Chul however called for peaceful General Election in order to consolidate the gains chalked out by the country.
