His Excellency the Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, has applauded the annual Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) as a commendable motivation scheme for the energy sector.

Inspecting the GEA booth at the opening of the 4th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair at the Accra International Conference Center, Dr Bawumia said the innovation and excellence of various companies, organisations and institutions in both private and public sectors of the country’s energy industry deserve recognition as encouragement to continue to do more.

In an interaction with the Event Organizer, Mr Henry Teinor, the Vice President said the awards is a good initiative and a perfect platform for the industry, adding that it would enhance healthy competition among stakeholders. He, therefore, urged all the sector’s institutions, organisations and individuals to take advantage of the platform to market their brands.

This endorsement from the Vice President adds to those from the Ministry of Energy and the World Energy Council Ghana and will further boosts the integrity of the Awards scheme.

This year’s event is under the theme: “Sustainable Energy for a Ghana Beyond Aid,” which is in line with the government’s vision to move the country beyond a heavy dependence on foreign assistance for its economic development.

The Awards Scheme was instituted to recognize the efforts of individuals and organisations in Ghana’s energy sector. It is superintended by a carefully selected awarding panel constituted of experts in the industry, from both private and public sectors.

The maiden event of the awards in 2017 recognised the achievements of twenty (20) individuals and companies in the energy industry and was well attended by over 300 stakeholders, with the presence of the former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, to grace the occasion.

Nominations for this year’s event are open to stakeholders for any of the 19 categories and is to last till October 26, while the main event is slated for November 30, 2018 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.

Stakeholders should visit the event website: ghanaenergyawards.com to file their nominations or to nominate others.
