Vodafone Ghana Foundation fetes children of Street Academy

Accra, Dec. 19, GNA - Vodafone Ghana Foundation, on Monday feted children of the Street Academy, a non-governmental organization (NGO), amidst fun fair at the Art Centre, Accra.

The day, marked as volunteerism day by the Foundation, was to provide staff Vodafone Ghana the chance to interact with less privileged children.

More than 120 children were treated to good music, food and drinks, books and other souvenirs from the Foundation, which also cleaned and painted the premises of Street Academy.

Addressing the children, Mrs Irene Asare, Head of Business Transformation, Vodafone Ghana, said the Foundation's gesture was to give back what it had received from the community.

She said members of staff hoped by interacting with the children they would be able to mentor and advice the children.

Mrs Asare recalled that the Foundation had provided humanitarian services to people in distressed situation including flood victims in the Eastern Region.

Mr Ataa Lartey, Proprietor of Street Academy, commended the Foundation for the gesture and appealed to donors to support the academy financially to enable it relocate to its land near the Timber market in Accra.

He said the Academy was currently housed in a government property at the Art Centre.

Street Academy that seeks to assist street children with no parental guidance, was established by Mr Lartey, a sports enthusiast and a social worker, to help those who have talents in sports and culture.

With this initiative, many children have had the opportunity to discover their talents in sports, and made use of it, an example is Joseph Agbeko, a boxer.
