Vodafone Ghana has signed a $120million contract with Huawei - a world leading Telecom solutions provider, focused on building long-term partnerships with telecom operators to expand its 2G network and subsequently roll out a 3G platform.

Chief Technology Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Mr. Tony Dolton explained that the contract was the first of many to help facilitate Vodafone Ghana's vigorous network expansion project across the length and breadth of the country.

He said, while the contract seeks to expand its radio base stations and cell sites, it also reiterates the company's commitment to deliver on its promise of providing a world class service to Ghanaians and to transform Ghana Telecom to an enviable position in the telecom industry. "The technology we have chosen is the most modern and most cost efficient, so that Ghana would not just have a new network but the most modern network in Africa," he stated.

The Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Mr. David Venn also indicated that so far there has been tremendous improvement in the quality of service of GT users; a sign he said was only a testimony of their ability to turn things around for the better, in the near future.

He indicated further that Vodafone was poised to make the needed investments to enable them deliver any mobile service that was applicable here.

Deputy Managing Director of Huawei, Jay Xu Junji, who signed the contract on behalf of his company, traced Huawei's relationship with Vodafone way back to November 2005, when Vodafone signed a global purchase framework agreement, by which Huawei became one of the preferred UMTS suppliers for Vodafone.

He, however, stated that the contract with Vodafone marked a significant step towards a strategic cooperation in the provision of a future oriented network that promises to stand the test of time.

He indicated that their office in Ghana was endowed with both local and international workforce to provide ready support and services, in order for it to achieve its strategic market growth, especially in the midst of the competition that currently exists in Ghana.

"We promise Vodafone our readiness to be available at all times and support it with customized solutions as it seeks to satisfy its customers in Ghana." he said.
