Accra, Feb. 21, GNA - Vodafone Ghana has launched a new business model dubbed "The Vodafone Way", aimed at a significant shift in the work culture of employees and partners of the telecom giant to make it more customer oriented.

A statement signed and issued by Isaac Abraham, Corporate Communications Manager of the Company, said Mr. David Venn, Chief Executive of Vodafone Ghana, told staff members at the launch that 'The Vodafone Way' created relevant focus to enable employees and partners of Vodafone work as a team to please customers.

It said "The Vodafone Way is going to ensure that Vodafone, its staff and partners do business with speed, simplicity and trust - It is a new corporate culture direction". The statement said that the new business model was designed to make the company's customers' expectations real by investing in programmes that would help it understand what motivated customers. "The experience we give our customers drives every decision we make and we all act as customer champions even when it's unpopular to do so," it said.

The statement said it was also to assist in making the company the number one communications network in the country not necessarily in terms of total mobile numbers but in terms of quality of voice and data services and finding solutions to telecommunications problems.

It said that Vodafone wanted its customers to see a company that was "customer obsessed, innovation hungry, ambitious and competitive. We want our customer to make the most out of life's opportunities and to be able to say 'I feel good to be associated with this brand".

In a related development, Mrs. Stella Appiah Nkansah, Head of Vodafone Ghana Human Resource, explained to GNA that being 'innovation hungry' was about creating and delivering new products, services and ways of working and being focused and bringing on board new ideas.

She said "This is about bringing both energy and passion into our work and setting high standards for ourselves and our competitors". Mrs. Nkansah said that Vodafone had it tough in Ghana, but believed in the ability, talent, passion and skills of its employees. Vodafone, one of the world's leaders in telecommunication took over ownership of the then Ghana Telecom (GT) about 11 months ago; and is already making remarkable strides in the telecommunication industry in Ghana. At the time Vodafone took over, GT had 1.7 million subscribers but in five months the number shot up to 2.5 million and currently Vodafone has almost three million subscribers.

The company finished its first year with a debt of almost GHC270 million. It therefore, laid off almost 2,000 workers as part of plans to make it profitable and productive in two years, insisting that the only way to meet targets was to do things 'The Vodafone Way'. 21 Feb 10
