Accra Sept. 23, GNA - Vodafone Ghana on Thursday donated a cheque of GH¢20,000 to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) towards the improvement of education infrastructure in the city. Ms Cynthia Torto, Event and Sponsorship Manager of Vodafone, said it was a privilege for them to respond to AMA's appeal to enable the government to build more classroom blocks. This, she added, would end the shift system and encourage children to attend school regularly.

Ms Torto noted that education was the key object in the country and the company would continue to support the sector. Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Chief Executive Officer of AMA, thanked Vodafone for its support for education in the city, saying this would create an enabling environment to help to solve problems relating to the shift system.

He said the shift system would end on Monday when schools re-opened adding that structures had been put in place to ensure that no government schools would have to run shift in the city. Mr Vanderpuije called on stakeholders and other organizations to join hands with AMA to create a good environment for education and the provision of social amenities.
