General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra, Manish Nambiar, has debunked claims that the plush hotel has laid off 85% of its staff due to the negative impact Coronavirus has had on their business.
He also quashed allegations that his outfit has closed down four floors of its multi-storey building with the aim of cutting down its operational cost.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, he indicated that none of its staff has been rendered jobless though his outfit is equally going through tough times since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Mr Nambiar stated that the virus is not going to be contained anytime soon, as projected earlier, for businesses to be stable by September.
During the interview with GhanaWeb's Ernestina Serwaa Asante, “We haven’t really laid off anybody. We have most of the employees still in the hotel since the pandemic started. The future is quite uncertain and these are things we will start dwelling and discussing as it comes. Our initial outlook for this whole pandemic was July, September…but it’s not going to be the case,” he stated in the interview.
Meanwhile, the National President of Ghana Progressive Hoteliers Association (GPHA), Charles Adu-Gyamfi, has announced that about 9,000 hotel and guest house workers have been sacked.
The action taken by various employers is due to the low patronage of services as well as they not cashing in the face of the coronavirus fight.
