Government will look into the issues that Public Utility Workers Union(PUWU) has raised concerning the outrageous bills being charged by the Electricity Company of Ghana, the Deputy Minister of Power, John Jinapor, has said.

“We ought to continue to work to satisfy the needs of consumers, that is the essence of governance. You cannot please everybody but you should make sure you deal with challenges that may come up,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.

He said government is making relentless efforts to tackle the ECG problems as soon as possible and also address the shortcomings in the billing system.

Jinapor said government is also devising effective mechanisms to ensure the welfare and safety of staff of ECG.

This comes on the back of what the PUWU says is the threats of physical attacks on their workers following the PURC’s lack of consultation with management of ECG over directive to suspend a new billing software.

It has therefore given the PURC seven day ultimatum to withdraw the directive.
