The celebration of Ghanaian entrepreneurs is critical to Ghana’s development as that serves as inspiration for the youth to be innovative and challenge themselves in building their own businesses, Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka-Lindsay has said.

Speaking at the second edition of the Ghana Business Quality Awards at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Mr. Ahomka-Lindsay lauded organisers of the award for recognising Ghanaian business owners for their achievements.

He said the Awards is one of the significant initiatives that will help promote quality business delivery among enterprises and also encourage the youth to set up their own ventures.

“We have to find a way to encourage the next generation, we’ve to find a way of celebrating those little steps because they say an ocean is made up of little drops of water… so we must celebrate the Ghanaian,” he said in a speech he delivered on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The minister said, President Akufo-Addo believes businesses are the core of Ghana’s development, hence his government’s resolve to create a favourable environment for businesses to thrive.

He said, government is considering means such as “trying to ensure we bring down our level of borrowing, bring inflation under control, manage exchange rate” among others, so as to set up the environment for businesses to grow and towards making Ghana an industrialised country.

“It is business we believe as the engine of growth. It is business we believe that will drive our aspiration of a Ghana Beyond Aid and an industrialised economy… it is the basics that we believe as the engine of growth that we should award and celebrate those,” Mr. Ahomka-Lindsay stressed.

He urged entrepreneurs not to compromise on quality as that is critical to the sustainability of their businesses, saying, “quality which is linked to innovation is the surest way of ensuring the following year you’re here and the year after you’re here”.

He further congratulated the winners of the Ghana Business Quality Awards and urged nominees who could not win to put in extra effort for better results next year.
