We will be disappointed if vehicle parts are excluded from benchmark list – Dealers

Spare Parts dealers at Abossey Okai are agitated over supposed exclusion from beneficiaries list of goods to enjoy government’s reduced benchmark values.

Imported general goods are to enjoy a 50 percent cut in tax or duty paid while imported vehicle see a 30 percent slash.

The move is expected to curb corruption and make Ghana’s ports competitive but the vehicle parts traders are furious a list circulated on social media excluded imported vehicle parts.

The Co-Chairman of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts dealers Association, Clement Boateng submits there’s need to meet members and deliberate before meeting tax and port authorities on the issue.

He however assured there will be a reduction in the charges on products should government’s plan include them.

“I’m assuring the public that if we monitor and see that import duties have come down, we are going to embark on a serious education for our members to also try as much as possible to reduce their goods for the benefit of we the Ghanaians,” Mr. Boateng declared.
