John Dramani Mahama is Ghana's President
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government is in the final stages of establishing the Women’s Development Bank.
According to him, all necessary processes have been completed, with only the final stage remaining before the bank becomes operational.
Delivering his address at the 69th Independence Day celebration at Jubilee House on Friday, March 6, 2026, President Mahama said the bank will provide women-led businesses with full access to capital and technical expertise.
“We are in the final stages of setting up the Women’s Development Bank. This work has been under the leadership of our hardworking Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. Our women entrepreneurs have historically been the backbone of Ghana's informal economy, yet too many of them face barriers to affordable credit. This Women’s Development Bank will provide accessible financing, mentorship, and business support tailored to women-led enterprises," he said.

He added that the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme will create more jobs for the youth and reduce the country’s dependence on exporting low-value raw materials.
On February 6, 2026, Parliament officially passed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025.
President Mahama emphasized that the programme would help address longstanding structural issues within Ghana’s productive economy and drive sustainable growth.
“I have assented to the 24-Hour Economy Bill, and it has now become law… This historic reform will boost productivity,” he said.
