Ho, Jan. 06, GNA - Public and civil servants in Ho have appealed to the President John Evans Atta Mills government to expedite action on the single-spine salary structure, which implementation had been postponed since January 2007. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Ho on Tuesday, the staffs of these institutions contended that they had waited for quite sometime for better living wages and hoped their expectations would be met by the new government. The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) under out-going President, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor has set January this year to implement the new salary scheme. The workers who pleaded anonymity hoped the new government would not stall the implementation of the process. They hoped the new government would continue with the Public Sector Reforms also initiated by its predecessor, which also aimed at modernizing the working environment. The workers again reminded government about the need to work on the three tier pension scheme. Captain Henry Quarshie (rtd), a security man called on the new government to focus more on the productive sectors of the economy in order to create jobs and improve productivity. He also urged government to de-politicize existing government sponsored credit facilities so as to make funds readily available to small and medium scale entrepreneurs at affordable interest rates. 06 Jan. 09
