A five-day training workshop for 40 participants drawn from local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Suppliers for the mining and oil and gas sectors opened on Monday at Busua.
The Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (STCCI) and the International Mining for Development Centre are organizing the workshop.
The participants include Procurement and Community Development Officers of mining and oil and gas sectors as well as representatives from government agencies, consultants of enterprise and supplier development service providers.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Ato Van-Ess, Chairman of STCCI, said the course was focused on developing local MSME Suppliers for the mining and oil and gas sectors.
He said the course is to impart the foundational knowledge and skills required to develop local MSME Suppliers.
Mr. Van-Ess said it is necessary to develop the capacities of Local MSME Suppliers to enable them to take advantage of the Local Content in mining and oil and gas.
He said the training would also put Local MSME Suppliers in better position to act professionally; adding that, the participants would work together and develop a Local MSME Supplier Development Strategy.
Dr. Joyce Aryee, Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, asked Local MSME to always assess the requirements of mining and oil and gas sectors to enable them to supply the right goods and services to them.
She urged Local MSME’s to ensure that goods and services supplied are of high quality.
