Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) Helga Boadi has dismissed assertions that her outfit is just there to dole out free monies to the youth.

“I wish to state categorically state that YES is not a mass production line,” she stressed.

“It is more about quality and not quantity.”

Ms Boadi expressed these remarks on Monday, August 10 in Accra.

She was addressing journalists at a programme to announce the first batch of successful applicants.

In all, 2,048 applications were received nationwide after the first business proposals were received in September last year.

Three hundred and sixty-five were shortlisted, but 107 emerged successful having faced a panel of experts to defend their proposals.

They are scheduled to be awarded their seed monies for business on Wednesday by President John Dramani Mahama.

The YES programme was launched in August, last year, as an initiative to help Ghanaian youth not more than 35 years.

It was launched by President Mahama with a seed amount of GH¢10 million.

“Many were those who labeled the YES programme as just another mass handout of free money,” remarked Ms Boadi.

Some of the successful applicants told TV3 they have already received training from YES to prepare them into the world of business.
