‘Young entrepreneurs must be adaptable’ - Salem Kalmoni

The Council Chairman of the Madina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Salem Kalmoni, has advised students to be versatile and work hard to equip themselves for the future.

Mr Kalmoni disclosed this to students of MIST who took part in a business competition on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.

The competition was dubbed, “I am an Innovator, I am an entrepreneur.”

Students from the School of Business and Technology (SOBT) presented business proposals that were pitched to a panel of judges and other guests.

Their presentations focused on waste management, natural food products, developing a clothing line, setting up of recreational centre, as well as forming a detergent company, among others.

President of MIST, Prof Abdulai Salifu Asuro, in an interview, indicated that the school intends to produce top-notch graduates who would not join the teeming employed youth in the country.

“We want to develop a student who would come out and not warm the unemployment bench,” he said.

He said the competition would prepare the students for the future by helping them to make good use of what they had been taught.

A participant, Isaac Osei, in a presentation, suggested that more avenues should be created to finance students to boost entrepreneurship.

MIST was established in 2013 by the Madina Foundation for Science & Technology (MFST), a not-for-profit entity that provides quality tertiary education to individuals who aspire to acquire and advance science and technology.

The institute, which commenced as a fully-fledged university last year, has three schools -the School of Engineering, School of Business and Technology and School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

It was duly accredited by the National Accreditation Board and affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University for Development Studies (UDS).
