Nokia inaugurates service centre

Accra, April 7, GNA - Dr Benjamin Aggrey Ntim, Deputy Minister of Communications, on Friday inaugurated an ultra modern facility in Accra, to service and repair Nokia cell phones in the country.

The facility located in the Classic House at Osu, paves the way for Ghanaian owners of Nokia cell phones to have direct access to high quality services.

Dr Ntim expressed happiness that Nokia had accepted the challenge to come for business in Ghana, which now had a strong market in the mobile phone technology.

He explained that the country now had a tele-density of 15 per cent and this was expected to increase to 25 per cent within the next three years.

"Government is also about to wire the whole country by fibre optics to aid organisations like Nokia in their smooth operations", the Deputy Minister indicated.

The General Manager, Customer and Market Operations for Nokia North/West Africa, Mr Jarmo Santala said the Company was committed to providing the highest quality of costumer care to the African region that was why it had set up the service centres in selected African countries.

"Nokia is working on customizing cell phones to cater specifically for the needs of customers for each region and country. Ghana will not be left out of the equation", he said.

He said the Company was at present studying the local market to know which product would be suitable for the Ghanaian market. Mr Herbert Mensah, a representative of Classic Cellular, sole distributor of Nokia Phones, commended Nokia for investing in technology in the country.

"The opening of Classic House and what it embodies for the people of Ghana and the Sub-Region is an achievement that cannot be underestimated. Until about two years ago, Africa did not exist as far as Nokia was concerned", Mr Mensah said.
