Accra - Africa ONE Ltd. and United Communications Systems International (UCSI)/Ghana Net last Thursday signed a major agreement in Accra that will bring world-wide fibre-optic connectivity to Ghana.

Under the agreement, UCSI/Ghana Net will purchase capacity on Africa ONE, a state-of-the-art fibre-optic network that will ring the African continent and connect African countries to one another and to the rest of the world. With connections to the Global Crossing world-wide cable system, Ghana will be linked to more than 200 cities around the globe, with calls within Africa more affordable and more reliable.

At the signing ceremony were the Minister for Communications, John Mahama and the US Ambassador to Ghana, Katherine Dee Robinson.

Africa ONE Ltd. is a private company that will build and operate a 32,000-kilometre undersea fibre-optic network that will encircle Africa, with landing points in southern Europe and the Middle East. It will make access to the Internet, e-commerce and e-mail available, thus helping Ghana compete in the global marketplace.
