Accra, March 1, GNA - The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has between 2001 and 2006 registered a total of 1,154 projects that generated about 53,430 jobs for Ghanaians.
For instance, in 2006 alone the Centre registered 238 projects, which is the highest number so far in a given year raking in a total investment of 2.367 billion dollars to the economy.
Investment within the period at the sector level showed that most outflows went into the manufacturing sector, which accounted for 322 projects and the highest number of Ghanaians being employed within that sector at 15,299 people during the six year period. Statistics made available to the GNA on Thursday by the GIPC at the ongoing 11th Ghana International Trade and Exhibition Fair dubbed; 93Golden Jubilee Fair" indicated that the Service Sector, the second highest, provided jobs to 14,428 people during the period.
Building and Construction, General Trade and Agricultural sectors employed 6,787, 6293, and 4642 people as against 79, 180, and 65 projects registered respectively for the period.
With 113 projects, Tourism generated 3,645 jobs to Ghanaians whilst the Export Trade Sector employed 1,357 people having registered 43 projects in the country.
Employment generated through liaison office was 1,049 with 78 registered projects.
Regionally, Greater Accra largely benefited with 922 registered projects out of a total of 1,107 in the country between the period 2001 and 2006. Ashanti Region, the second highest registered 56 projects with Upper West Region scoring only a single project.
Total cost of registered projects from 2001 and 2006 was about 3.036 billion dollars. 01 March 07
