  As one of my brothers,who works at the downstream sector of the industry defined the art, it's a process of mobilizing deposits from people who have savings and lending it out to those who have need for financing at the markup(covering the cost of operations, rewarding those who've provided those deposits and also rewarding the shareholders for taking the risk to set up the lending entity) Profs. rendering is in line with the old ways of doing business bringing products and services outside of the African civilization mainly because the legacy and business model of colonization does not support the growth and development of Africa's ways of life and this includes it's commerce and industry

  To get a grip of the extent of the issue one has to study the Indian Premier Ghandi to understand how people on the receiving end of Colonization feel about what has happened to them and their way of life. My point is that as both our current Prez. and Prof. Lumumba are advocating it's about time Africans defined for themselves what it means to be an African because as at present it's a story of confusion everwher e one turns. Africans have also had their own way of banking an example is the story of Okonkwo is Mr Achebe's Things Fall Apart book,

  So as tradition will have it he had to seek help, to start up his own enterprise(Yam Farming) He got this by consulting a respected elder Stateman who led him to a pillar of their society back then, who agree to lend him the seedlings through a share cropping mechanism. The conversation that transpired leading to He, Okonkwo successfully procuring his seedlings is well documented and i challenge any loan officer to point out the weakness in the system as against similar processes in other parts of theworld
