The vetting process for President John Dramani Mahama's ministerial nominees resumes, with Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Seven other ministerial nominees will also appear before the committee to be vetted and assessed based on their expertise and capabilities to drive development in their respective roles, should they be appointed.
Hassan Pelpuo entered the Parliament of Ghana in 2005 after winning a seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress in the Ghanaian parliamentary elections in December 2004.
In 2009, he was appointed Minister for Youth and Sports by John Evans Atta Mills, succeeding Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the MP for Asawase, who resigned from the position.
Rashid Hassan Pelpuo was later replaced by Ghana's first female Minister for Sports, Akua Dansua, and subsequently appointed Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament.
He was also elected as one of Ghana's five Members of the Pan-African Parliament in South Africa, where he served a term until 2013.
During the John Mahama administration (2012–2016), he was appointed Minister of State at the Office of the President in Charge of Private Sector Development and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). He was also a member of the Economic Management Team (EMT).
