The Executive Director of the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA), Paul Frimpong, has disclosed that Ghana and China are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their growing partnership on climate cooperation.

Prior to the signing, China had already announced plans to roll out more than 30 renewable energy projects across Africa over the next three years, with Ghana expected to be a major beneficiary.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb Business on the sidelines of the maiden Ghana-China Summit in Accra on September 16, 2025, Frimpong noted that although the MoU wasn't finalized at the summit, a joint implementation team would be established to oversee the agreement.

“For the first time, Ghana and China are now speaking the same language, on the same platform as you’ve seen here, to ensure that the two countries align their national and local priorities when it comes to climate change,” he said.

He further added that Ghana needs to tap into China's renewable energy expertise on the continent.

This, he believes, will be a major boost for Ghana by initiating and advancing renewable energy initiatives to fully harness the benefits of these projects.

"We have to initiate, we have to align our renewable energy priorities with this announcement. Ghana must be ready to attract two or three renewable energy projects from China during this period. So we have to put together our proposal and engage with our Chinese counterparts accordingly," he added.

For his part, the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, described the engagement in a televised address as a decisive moment for Ghana, Africa, and the world.

He proposed the establishment of a Ghana-China Climate Business Summit to bring together investors, innovators, and entrepreneurs from both countries.
