Import taxes generate revenue for the Government to embark on development. However, the duties are at usury levels. Imagine the duty on an eight year SUV which is ore than double the purchasing price of the vehicle. The myriads of charges are confusing, duplication, and, frustrating. How about a flat rate for all imports. Just one flat rate. The paper work reduces. The insanity will be over. The Minister has concerns (and he should) over revenue. The nations needs the revenue. But the nation must end the insanity at ports. Establish a realistic rate and set a transparent payment system.
