Government Statistician lists main drivers of GDP growth in Q3 2025

The Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, has announced that the main drivers of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in Q3 2025 are ICT, Crops, Trade, Transport and Storage, Manufacturing and Education. Altogether, they contributed about 86% to the overall growth.

Dr Iddrisu had announced that Ghana’s economy grew by 5.5% in 3rd Quarter of 2025, down from 7.0% in the 3rd Quarter of 2024. According to the government statistician Non-oil growth is strong at 6.8% in 2025 3rd quarter compared to 7.8% in 2024 3rd quarter. Agriculture grew by 8.6%, compared to 2.5% in the 3rd quarter of 2024.

Dr Iddrisu further stated that fishing grew the largest at 23.1% compared to a contraction (-6.4%) in Q3 of 2024. Industry grew by 0.8% in 2025 3rd quarter, compared to 11.4% in 2024 3rd quarter. The oil and gas sector dragged industrial growth significantly (contraction of 18.2%) but Manufacturing was strong, growing by 3.9% down from 7.4% in 2024Q3.

Services remained the strongest part of the economy. The sector grew at 7.6%., constituted the largest share of the economy at 40%, and contributed the most at 59.5% to overall growth with ICT leading the way at 17.0% growth.

The top 5 expanding sub-sectors are Fishing (23.1%), ICT (17.0%), Transport and Storage (10.4%), Trade (10.0%),and Crops (8.3%). Five contracting activities are Oil & Gas (-18.2%), Mining & Quarrying, (-2.8%), Health & Social Work (-9.7), Accommodation & Food Service Activities (-7.2%) and Other Personal Services (-3.5%).
