The Deputy Minister for Transport and Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has commended contractors and management of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) following an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects at Kotoka International Airport.

The Deputy Minister paid a working visit to GACL on February 12, 2026, to familiarise herself with the company’s operations and assess progress on key aviation projects. She was received by the company’s management, led by Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.

During the tour, Affo-Toffey inspected several ongoing projects, including runway overlay works, the renovation of Terminal 2 to support international flight operations, and the planned Connecting Concourse project, which will link Terminals 2 and 3. She also visited the construction site of GACL’s new head office complex.

Addressing the media after the inspection, the Deputy Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and confidence that the projects would be completed on schedule.

She commended “the management of GACL and the contractors for their dedication and commitment to delivering the projects as scheduled.”

The Ministry of Transport, she noted, remains committed to supporting aviation infrastructure development and strengthening regulatory oversight to advance Ghana’s air transport sector.

The assurance, she explained, reflects government’s broader goal of positioning Ghana as a competitive aviation hub in the West African sub-region while improving safety, operational efficiency, and service delivery.

According to Affo-Toffey, maximising the commercial potential of airport assets would help increase revenue, create jobs, and support government’s resetting agenda and 24-hour economy policy.

Providing updates on ongoing projects, Afriyie Opare said the new office complex is designed to provide adequate space for the company’s expanding workforce and improve operational efficiency, adding that the facility is expected to be completed by July 2027.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Stephen Wilfred Arthur disclosed that construction of the new air traffic control tower has reached 54 percent completion, with civil works projected to be finalised by the end of the year.

He explained that the new tower is being built to address structural and operational challenges associated with the existing facility.
