Sitting allowances for members of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) will be suspended for the remainder of the 2025/2026 cocoa season as part of efforts to support ongoing reforms in the sector.

The decision was communicated in a public notice issued on February 19, 2026.

According to the Board, the move forms part of efforts to reinforce the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry at a time when the sector is undergoing significant restructuring.

The statement explained that board members have voluntarily agreed not to receive any sitting allowances for the rest of the season, describing the decision as a practical show of solidarity with reform measures intended to restore stability and rebuild confidence across the cocoa value chain.

“In support of ongoing efforts to reform Ghana’s cocoa industry and strengthen its long-term sustainability, the Board of Directors of the Ghana Cocoa Board has resolved not to receive any sitting allowances for the remainder of the 2025/26 cocoa season,” part of the statement read.

The Board emphasised that the decision reflects a commitment to prudent financial management and responsible leadership, particularly as COCOBOD implements key reforms to address recent operational and financial challenges.

It noted that shared sacrifice at the leadership level is necessary to help reposition the institution and ensure more efficient use of resources.

The Board reaffirmed its resolve to improve efficiency within the cocoa sector, promote transparency and accountability, and protect the livelihoods of cocoa farmers whose incomes depend heavily on a stable and well-managed industry.

It further indicated that it will continue to collaborate closely with government and other stakeholders to strengthen the resilience of the cocoa industry and secure its long-term viability for future generations.
