The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited to operate fully under the 24-Hour Economy programme.

She emphasised that, despite the company’s financial losses in previous years, it is essential for GIHOC, as a state-owned entity, to transition from losses to profitability.

Speaking at the commissioning of a new fleet of vehicles for GIHOC on February 26, 2026, Ofosu-Adjare noted that these cars are part of the government’s broader intervention to strengthen GIHOC’s balance sheet, enhance operational capacity, and restore its competitiveness as a state-owned beverage manufacturer.

“This investment directly addresses one of GIHOC’s most critical operational gaps, the inability to efficiently and effectively reach its distribution network and retail points across the country. My ministry recognises that asset injection alone is insufficient to drive a sustainable turnaround,” she said.

She added that the government is positioning GIHOC as a major player under the 24-Hour Economy programme to increase operational efficiency and address structural liabilities.

“Accordingly, the government will work in collaboration with the board and management of GIHOC to resolve the company’s structural financial liabilities, review its operating model for long-term viability, and explore opportunities to expand production capacity under the 24-Hour Economy,” she noted.

For his part, the CEO of GIHOC, Jones Borteye Applerh, expressed confidence in a strong comeback for the company, stressing that the shared responsibility of the board and management is to put GIHOC back on the path of growth.

He explained that the company has already restructured its operations toward full 24-hour production.

“As part of strengthening productivity and supporting the government’s transformative economic direction, led by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, GIHOC has transitioned into a two-shift operational system. We are actively taking structured steps toward full 24-hour production, in line with the government’s groundbreaking 24-Hour Economy policy,” he stated.
